Chase Jarvis once quipped, “The best camera is the one that’s with you.”
I found that photographing with my Ipod Touch is truly liberating… No longer do I have to carry a 1kg camera with another 4kgs of gear and lenses. It’s small, thin and lightweight, fitting easily in my back pocket. And while it is true that I cannot utilize the adjustments and amenities of my SLR, I also get the advantage of having a lightweight camera at my disposal, while being starkly reminded that photography is more about vision and composition and getting the shot “at the moment” than it is about gear. It is all about seeing through the scene, and that is something no gear, no matter how elaborate or advanced, can ever compensate for.
